Christopher has been a barrister since 1974 covering crime and general common law before specialising in professional negligence cases from 1991. Christopher is also a Member of the Inner Temple and Bencher; he is a part-time judge; and he was a Recorder for 12 years before being appointed a Circuit Judge in Reading in 2000 and Resident Judge of Guildford Crown Court in 2008. He was Honorary Recorder of Guildford until 2016.

Christopher currently holds the office of High Sheriff of Surrey for 2022-23; he is also an Ambassador for the Community Foundation for Surrey, a Patron of GASP Motor project, and a trustee of Surrey Clubs for Young Persons, the High Sheriff Youth Awards and Painshill Park.
